Managing Jobs in TerraFlow Data Engine
Jobs are how TerraFlow organizes the field data collected within a project. Each job groups related points and lines together — for example, all data collected for a specific work order, site visit, or locate ticket. This guide walks you through viewing, creating, renaming, merging, and deleting jobs in the Data Engine.
Time needed: 1–2 minutes depending on task
Before you start:
- An active TerraFlow account with access to at least one project
- Log in to app.terraflow.ca and open the Projects dashboard
Step 1: Open the Jobs Screen
The Jobs screen is your central hub for managing all the data within a project. From here you can see every job and quickly check how much data each one contains.
- From the Projects dashboard, find the project you want to work in.
- Click the Jobs button on that project's row.
- The Jobs screen opens, displaying a list of all jobs with three columns: Name, Points, and Lines.
Each job row also shows three action buttons on the right: Merge, Edit, and Delete.
Tip: If your project has many jobs, use the Filter field in the top-right corner to search by name. Click the × next to the filter to clear it and show all jobs again.
To return to the Projects dashboard at any time, click ← Back to Projects in the top-right corner.
Step 2: Add a New Job
Need a new job for an upcoming field collection? You can create one right from the Jobs screen.
- Click the + Add Job button in the top-right corner of the Jobs screen.
- Enter a name for the new job in the dialog that appears.
- Click Save.
The new job will appear in the list with 0 points and 0 lines, ready for field data collection.
Tip: Use a consistent naming convention — work order numbers, locate ticket IDs, or site names — so jobs are easy to find and filter later.
Step 3: Rename a Job (Edit)
Job names often need updating to match work order numbers, ticket IDs, or site names. Renaming a job does not affect any of the collected data inside it — it only changes the label.
- Find the job you want to rename in the list.
- Click the Edit button on that job's row.
- The Edit job dialog opens, showing the current name in the Name field.
- Clear the existing name and type the new name.
- Click Save to apply the change, or Cancel to discard it.
The updated name will appear in the jobs list immediately.
Step 4: Merge Two Jobs Together
Merging combines all the points and lines from one job into another. This is useful when data was collected under separate jobs that should actually be grouped together — for example, if a technician started a new job by mistake.
- Find the job whose data you want to move (the source job) and click its Merge button.
- The Merge job dialog opens. You'll see the message: "To merge this Job into another Job, select the merge target below. This job will then be deleted."
- Click the dropdown and select the target job — this is the job that will receive all the data.
- Click Merge to confirm, or Cancel to back out.
After the merge completes, the source job is deleted and its points and lines are added to the target job. You'll see the target job's Points and Lines counts increase accordingly.
⚠️ Warning: Merging cannot be undone. The source job is permanently deleted after its data is moved to the target. Double-check that you've selected the correct target job before clicking Merge.
Step 5: Delete a Job
If a job is no longer needed, you can permanently remove it. TerraFlow includes a safety step to prevent accidental deletions.
- Find the job you want to remove and click its Delete button.
- The Delete job dialog opens, showing how many points and lines the job contains — for example: "The job '1234' has 9 points and 3 lines. Are you sure you want to delete it?"
- Type the job name exactly as shown into the confirmation field. The name is case-sensitive.
- Click Delete to permanently remove the job, or Cancel to keep it.
⚠️ Warning: Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. If you're unsure whether you still need the data, consider using Merge to move it into another job before deleting.
Troubleshooting
The Delete button stays greyed out even after I type the job name.
- Make sure you've typed the name exactly as it appears in the list, including capitalization, spaces, and any special characters. The confirmation field is case-sensitive.
I can't find a specific job in the list.
- Use the Filter field at the top of the Jobs screen and start typing the job name. The list will narrow as you type. Clear the filter by clicking the × to show all jobs again.
I merged the wrong jobs. Can I undo it?
- Merges cannot be reversed within the platform. Contact TerraFlow Support as soon as possible — the team may be able to assist depending on your situation.
I need to move data between projects, not just between jobs.
- The Merge function only works within the same project. Moving data between projects is not currently available from the Jobs screen. Contact support for guidance on cross-project data management.
The Jobs screen looks empty but I know data was collected.
- Check that you're looking at the correct project. Click ← Back to Projects and verify the project name. Also check if a filter is active — clear it by clicking the × next to the filter field.
Tips for Success
- Name jobs consistently from the start. A standard format like work order numbers or ticket IDs makes filtering, reporting, and merging much easier down the line.
- Use Merge instead of Delete when in doubt. If a job has data you're unsure about, merge it into a catch-all job rather than deleting it permanently.
- Check point and line counts before deleting. The Jobs list shows counts at a glance — any job with more than zero points or lines deserves a second look before you remove it.
- Keep job names short and descriptive. Long names can be harder to type in the delete confirmation dialog and may get cut off in reports.
- Review merged data afterward. After merging, open the target job's data in the Map view to confirm everything looks correct.
