Using Address Search in TerraFlow Map
Learn how to quickly navigate to specific locations using the address search feature in TerraFlow Data Engine's map view.
Time needed: Less than 1 minute
Before you start:
- Log in to TerraFlow Data Engine at https://app.terraflow.ca
- Open a project and navigate to the Map view
- Have the address or location you want to find
- Ensure you have an active internet connection (required for address search)
Step 1: Understanding Map Navigation
The map provides multiple ways to navigate to your data and areas of interest.
Default map position: The map always opens at the location of the last data you collected in this project, making it easy to pick up where you left off.
Navigation options:
- Pan and zoom: Click and drag to move the map; use scroll wheel or zoom controls to zoom in/out
- Address search: Type an address to jump directly to a specific location
Address search is the fastest way to navigate to a known location without manually panning across the map.
Step 2: Access the Address Search
Locate the address search feature on the map interface.
- Open the Map view in your project
- Look for the Address Search box (on the left panel)
- Click in the search box to activate it
The search box will be labeled "Enter a location".
Step 3: Enter The Address
Type the address you want to find and use autocomplete suggestions.
- Begin typing the address in the search box
- The system displays autocomplete suggestions as you type
- Suggestions appear based on:
- Street addresses
- Cities and towns
- Landmarks
- Postal codes or ZIP codes
- Continue typing to refine suggestions, or scroll through the list
Autocomplete helps you find the correct address quickly and prevents typos. You don't need to type the complete address—select from suggestions as soon as you see the right one.
Step 4: Select the Address
Choose your destination from the autocomplete results.
- Review the autocomplete suggestions
- Click on the correct address from the list
- The map automatically pans to that location
- The map zooms to an appropriate level for viewing the area
- Any data collected at or near that location appears on the map screen
The map centers on the selected address and displays all relevant data within the visible extent.
Step 5: View Data at the Location
Review the data displayed at your searched location.
- Data points and features near the address are visible on the map
- Click on features to view their attributes
- Zoom in or out to adjust your view
- Pan to nearby areas if needed
If no data appears, you may need to zoom out to see if data exists nearby, or the searched location may not have any collected data yet.
Troubleshooting
Autocomplete suggestions not appearing?
- Verify you have an active internet connection
- Try typing more of the address (city, state/province)
- Check for typos in your search text
- Wait a moment—suggestions may take a second to load
- Try a different format (e.g., add postal code)
Can't find the address I'm looking for?
- Try different variations (abbreviate or spell out "Street," "Avenue," etc.)
- Include city and state/province in your search
- Use a nearby landmark or intersection instead
- Try searching with just the city name, then pan manually
- Verify the address exists and is spelled correctly
Map pans to wrong location?
- Check that you selected the correct suggestion from autocomplete
- Verify the address includes the right city/state/province
- Try searching again with more specific information
- Use street intersections if exact address is problematic
No data visible after searching?
- Zoom out to check if data exists in the broader area
- Verify you're in the correct project
- Check that filters aren't hiding data
- The address may be in an area where no data has been collected yet
Search seems slow or unresponsive?
- Check your internet connection speed
- Close other browser tabs to free up resources
- Try refreshing the page
- Clear browser cache and try again
Tips for Success
- Be specific: Include city and state/province for better autocomplete results
- Use intersections: Search for "Main St & Oak Ave" if exact addresses don't work
- Landmarks work: Try searching for nearby businesses or landmarks
- Postal codes: ZIP codes or postal codes often work well for finding general areas
- Refine as you go: Start broad (city name) then search more specifically
- Manual navigation backup: If search isn't working, pan and zoom manually
