Setting Up Laser Tech Devices with TerraFlow Pole Mapper

Learn how to pair your Laser Tech 200x or 360R laser rangefinder with TerraFlow Pole Mapper for accurate distance measurements during pole inspections.

Time needed: 5 minutes

Before you start:

  • Ensure your Laser Tech device (200x or 360R) is fully charged
  • Have your mobile device ready with TerraFlow Pole Mapper installed
  • Verify Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device
  • Know your laser's Bluetooth device name

Step 1: Pair the Laser with Your Mobile Device

Connect your Laser Tech device to your phone or tablet via Bluetooth.

  1. Power on your Laser Tech 200x or 360R laser
  2. Open Settings on your mobile device
  3. Tap Bluetooth
  4. Tap Scan or wait for available devices to appear
  5. Locate your Laser Tech device in the list (look for "200x" or "360R" in the device name)
  6. Tap the device name to pair
  7. Enter the pairing code if prompted

Once paired successfully, you should see "Connected" or a similar status next to your Laser Tech device in the Bluetooth settings.

Step 2: Configure TerraFlow Pole Mapper

Connect TerraFlow Pole Mapper to your paired laser so distance measurements can be captured automatically.

  1. Open TerraFlow Pole Mapper
  2. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Scroll down to Sensor Settings
  5. Select your laser's Bluetooth name from the dropdown

Your Laser Tech device is now connected and ready to capture distance measurements during pole inspections.

Step 3: Test Your Connection

Before heading to the field, confirm the laser is communicating with TerraFlow.

  1. Start a new pole inspection in TerraFlow Pole Mapper
  2. Navigate to a type with attachments that requires height measurements
  3. Aim your laser at a target and take the measurement
  4. Verify that the height value appears automatically in TerraFlow

If the measurement populates in the app, your setup is complete and ready for fieldwork.

Troubleshooting

Laser Tech device not appearing in Bluetooth scan?

  • Verify the laser is powered on
  • Ensure the laser is within 10 feet of your mobile device
  • Turn Bluetooth off and on again on your mobile device
  • Check that the laser battery has sufficient charge
  • Some models may have a specific Bluetooth pairing mode—consult your laser documentation

Pairing code not working or not sure what code to use?

  • Check your Laser Tech device documentation for the default pairing code
  • Try common default codes: 0000, 1234, or 1111
  • Contact your laser supplier if the code has been changed

Laser paired but not appearing in TerraFlow dropdown?

  • Close and reopen TerraFlow Pole Mapper
  • Verify the Bluetooth connection is active in your device settings
  • Unpair and re-pair the device, then restart TerraFlow
  • Ensure you have the latest version of TerraFlow Pole Mapper installed

Measurements not automatically populating in TerraFlow?

  • Confirm the correct laser is selected in Sensor Settings
  • Verify the Bluetooth connection is still active
  • Check that you're taking measurements (not just aiming)
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting the laser
  • Restart TerraFlow Pole Mapper

Connection keeps dropping during inspections?

  • Keep your mobile device within 10 feet of the laser
  • Check for Bluetooth interference from other devices
  • Ensure both devices have adequate battery charge
  • Close other apps that may be using Bluetooth
  • Restart both devices if the problem persists

Tips for Success

  • Battery life: Bluetooth connection drains battery faster—charge both devices overnight before field work
  • Connection distance: Maintain a reasonable distance between your mobile device and laser (within 10 feet)
  • First-time setup: Initial pairing is quick but wait for confirmation before proceeding
  • Pre-inspection test: Always test a measurement before your first pole to ensure connectivity
  • Multiple lasers: If you use multiple Laser Tech devices, note each device's Bluetooth name to select the correct one
  • Measurement accuracy: Ensure you have a clear line of sight to your target for accurate distance readings
