Setting Up TerraFlow Mobile for Utility Mapping
This guide will help you configure TerraFlow Mobile with the optimal settings for utility mapping workflows. These recommended settings will ensure accurate data collection and smooth synchronization with your locator and GPS devices.
Time needed: 5-10 minutes
Before you start: Make sure your locator and GPS devices are powered on and ready to pair via Bluetooth.
Step 1: Access Settings
- Turn on and log into TerraFlow Mobile
- Tap the Settings button on the bottom of the screen
Step 2: Configure General Settings
These settings control how your data is saved and synchronized.
- Set Save and More Mode to Manual
This gives you control over when data is saved - Turn Auto Sync to On
- Set Time Interval to 5 minutes
This automatically backs up your work every 5 minutes
- Set Time Interval to 5 minutes
Step 3: Configure Your Locator Device
Choose the section below that matches your locator model.
Radiodetection 8100, 8200, or MRX (Standard)
- Locator Device: Select your locator's Bluetooth name
- Use Locator GPS: Off
Radiodetection 8200SG or MRX SG
- Locator Device: Select your locator's Bluetooth name
- Use Locator GPS: On
Vivax vLoc2 or vLoc3 (Standard)
- Locator Device: Select your locator's Bluetooth name
- Use Locator GPS: Off
Vivax vLoc3 RTK Pro
- Locator Device: Select your locator's Bluetooth name
- Use Locator GPS: On
Rycom Locators
- Locator Device: Select your locator's Bluetooth name
- Use Locator GPS: Off
Step 4: Configure Your GPS/GNSS Device
Choose the section below that matches your GPS device.
Trimble GNSS
- Location Source: Trimble GNSS
- Location Device: Select your device's Bluetooth name
Eos GNSS
- Location Source: NMEA
- Location Device: Select your device's Bluetooth name
Vivax vLoc3 RTK Pro
- Location Source: NMEA
- Location Device: Select your device's Bluetooth name
Radiodetection 8200SG
- Location Source: U-Blox
- Location Device: Select your device's Bluetooth name
Emlid Reach
- Location Source: Emlid
- Location Device: Select your device's Bluetooth name
Step 5: Set Up Coordinate Translation
This setting ensures your coordinates display correctly on web maps.
Translation to Web Mercator:
- For Canada: Select NAD83CSRS → Web Mercator
- For United States: Select NAD832011 ITRF2014 → Web Mercator
- For other regions: Contact support for the correct coordinate system
Step 6: Set Your Surveyor Height
Enter your Antenna Height in centimeters in the Surveyor Height field.
This is the height from the ground to your GPS antenna and is critical for accurate elevation measurements.
Step 7: Configure Real-Time Corrections (If Applicable)
Only for Radiodetection 8200SG and MRX SG users:
If you're using real-time correction services (RTK/NTRIP):
- Turn Correction Settings to On
- Enter the correction values provided by your correction service provider (these will be given to you)
- Address of the NTRIP providor
- Port number
- Username
- Password
- Mount Point
Troubleshooting
Can't find my device in the Bluetooth list?
- Make sure the device is powered on
- Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device
- Try turning the locator/GPS off and back on
